27,691

27,691. That’s the number of times Wordmaster and Wordmaster Free have been downloaded since they launched last April/May!

That number is fantastic, and it would not have been possible without the players. Thank you for your support and your suggestions. We hope you continue to enjoy the game for a long time to come.

Changes in 1.3.6

Versions 1.3.6 of Wordmaster and Wordmaster Free are now available in the App Store. Changes include:

  • Upgrade to OpenFeint 2.10
  • Tapping the OpenFeint button puts you right on High Scores
  • New dictionaries now download automatically in the background
  • Ships with dictionary version 13

This update was mostly about reducing steps.

Previously, tapping the OpenFeint button would start you at the OF main menu, from which you would have to tap Leaderboards, then High Scores, to see how you were ranking. Now, tapping the button takes you right to High Scores.

To upgrade to a new dictionary previously, you had to wait for the red notification to appear on the main menu screen, then go into Settings and tap Update Dictionary. We’ve taken out all these steps — the game now updates the dictionary automatically when a new version is available.

1.2.1 to address iPad crashing issue

UPDATE: We are aware of the crashing on launch issue on iPad with version 1.2.0. The update addressing the problem is currently in the review process. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience!

The problem was caused by OpenFeint not detecting any visible windows on initialization. We are asking for an expedited review, which means the update could be in the Store in a few days.

1.0.3 and 1.0.1 Free are awaiting review

The much-anticipated 1.0.3 and 1.0.1 Free updates have been submitted today and are awaiting review. They’ll probably be available for download in about a week.

The big news is both updates now allow for more than one 6-letter word to be solved. We tried this by design (the words aren’t actually missing from the dictionary), thinking the limitation might add more of a challenge, but pretty much everyone hated it. So it’s gone for good.

Here are the full changelogs:

1.0.3:

– MORE THAN ONE 6-LETTER WORD ALLOWED!
– Fixed bug where changing minimum word length re-enabled “Update dictionary” button even if dictionary had already been updated
– Fixed bug where if you continued a game with 0 words solved and ended the round, words would not appear in red
– Ships with revision 2 of the dictionary

1.0.1 Free:

– MORE THAN ONE 6-LETTER WORD ALLOWED!
– NEW GAME MECHANIC: Solving 100% gives you bonus points equal to 10 times the total number of words that round (up to 500 points!)
– Expanded rules section
– Fixed bug where game buttons would appear on main menu if application resigned active while a game was not in progress (Sleep/Wake button pushed, text message received, OpenFeint asked to use location, etc.)
– Fixed bug where timer color turned black at 0:00, regardless of user text brightness
– Fixed bug where if timer ran out or all words were solved, OpenFeint button didn’t show
– Fixed bug where changing minimum word length re-enabled “Update dictionary” button even if dictionary had already been updated
– Fixed bug where if you continued a game with 0 words solved and ended the round, words would not appear in red
– Green solve button!
– Ships with revision 2 of the dictionary
